Out with the old

Stuff.  You have it.  It happens.  Whether it's good stuff or bad, too much stuff can stifle my creativity.  I suppose it would've been easier to just dust off some old stuff and go back to business as it was, but that's not who I am.  Instead, I've spent the past month purging my little home/studio of clutter in all forms.  Rooms were completely tossed and reassembled, patterns evaluated and tweaked, and everything Babester was put under the microscope.  Things that worked were celebrated and embraced.  Things that didn't?  Gone!

My first year as a shopowner was a fun little experiment.  I made some great new friends, met all kinds of amazing fiber artists, and had the pleasure of sharing my art with a lot of wonderful people.  Now, it's time to grow.  The bad news: Babester as we know it doesn't exist anymore.  It hasn't for about a year now, and it's just too dusted*, rusted, can't be trusted to resurrect.

The good news is: Babester is back! Only different! Newer, shinier and now with more sparkle! After a long break, I am returning to my fiber love. To mark this transition, I have updated the shop, complete with a new name. The fiberland formerly known as “Babester” is now BabesterArts.  I'm putting all that I've learned in my first year of shopmavenry (and wordsmithing, apparently) into bringing you more batts, more yarn, and more smooshy fiber goodness.  New year, new shop, and all sorts of new adventures.

Watch this space for details about the grand reopening sale! In with the new!!!

*- it was never busted.  Babester was, by all measures, a success.  It's just time for Babester 2.0

Could it be?!

Wow.  Could it be that I haven't posted here in nearly a year?!  Geez.  Time flies!

Let me explain my absence.  No.  There is too much.  Let me sum up.  Babester expanded by one babester this past year!  If you have children, you know what that means.  If you don't, well, let's just say I've been really busy!  It's kinda hard to card and spin when you're pregnant and puking all the time.  It's also hard to steal time for fiber fun when there's a newborn in the house.

I'm hoping to sneak in a brief holiday stocking.  'Tis the season for stockings and all.  If not, well we'll just have to kick off the new year with a back-to-business sale or somesuch!  In the interim, please enjoy this smartysnack from the always awesome Seth Godin:

Anticipation vs. anxiety

If we define anxiety as experiencing failure in advance, we can also understand its antonym, anticipation.
When you work with anticipation, you will highlight the highs. You'll double down on the things that will delight and push yourself even harder to be bold and to create your version of art. If this is going to work, might as well build something that's going to be truly worth building.
If you work with anxiety, on the other hand, you'll be covering the possible lost bets, you'll be insuring against disaster and most of all, building deniability into everything you do. When you work under the cloud of anxiety, the best strategy is to play it safe, because if (when!) it fails, you'll be blameless.
Not only is it more fun to work with anticipation, it's often a self-fulfilling point of view.
Happiest of holidays to all!  No better time for fibercrafting!
